What is Splurk.com

This web site, Splurk.com, is an extension of a personal project started at the end of 2011.

I want to learn six languages in the next six years.

This site will consist of helpful training material as I discover and learn.

Hopefully, Splurk.com will be helpful to others too.

Being over 50, this could prove to be a difficult task. Research suggest that learning languages should be done in the early years of life, but obviously that is not the case now. Let the challenge begin!

So what languages?

English.

I am an English speaker so that is language number one.

French.

Growing up in Canada, I was taught some French in school, but it never really stuck.

French is language number two. The big advantages here are that it is easy to find people to practice speaking with, and all I need to do is turn on the television to get daily exposure to French language.

Spanish.

A decade ago, I took a conversation Spanish course at the local University before spending a week in Spain. Oddly, I understand Spanish far better than I ever understood French, but I have not kept up with either of them.

German.

My choice for language four is German.

Italian.

Language number five is Italian.

Something Completely Different.

Six and Seven are still undecided. Keep reading why.

Something Completely Different again.

Possibilities include Japanese, and Mandarin Chinese.

Constructed language like Ido fascinate me, but I do not see ever being able to use them.

(Ido is an offspring of Esperanto with the biggest difference being it uses the just 26 letters of the basic Latin alphabet with no diacritics. Esperanto's alphabet uses six non-Latin letters as well.)

My final two choices will come down to finding languages I may possibly use someday.

Thank your for your interest in my project.
